Jaime Castillo H. is a partner at Alcogal with more than 20 years of experience in telecommunications, electricity, competition law, insurance, banking law, litigation, arbitration, and project development. His practice focuses on advising clients across regulated industries, combining strong technical expertise with a strategic approach to complex legal and business challenges.
He has been consistently recognized by leading international legal publications. Chambers and Partners ranks him in Band 4 in Projects and Energy and Dispute Resolution, highlighting his experience in contractual litigation and arbitration. IFLR1000 recognizes him as “Highly Regarded” in project development, while Latin Lawyer includes him among leading practitioners in energy, litigation, and competition law. The Legal 500 has named him a “Next Generation Partner” for his involvement in complex disputes and transactions in the banking and energy sectors.
Jaime has advised Cable & Wireless Panamá, S.A. since before the liberalization of the telecommunications market in 2003, including in matters related to pay television services. In 2013, he advised the company on the negotiation and execution of its mobile telephony concession agreement, and in 2023, on the acquisition of Claro Panamá, S.A.
He has also advised numerous companies in the electricity sector, both in generation and distribution, and has conducted due diligence processes for the acquisition of energy companies. Notably, he represented Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM) in the public tender for the acquisition of 51% of the shares of Elektra Noreste, S.A., as well as in the execution of its concession agreement.
In addition, he has represented companies across multiple sectors—including banking, insurance, telecommunications, and hydrocarbons—in merger control proceedings before the Panamanian competition authority (ACODECO). His experience also includes representing clients in civil, commercial, tax, competition, intellectual property, administrative, constitutional proceedings, and arbitration.
