Jaime Alemán is a founding partner of the firm with a distinguished career spanning corporate law, public service, and international relations. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of Notre Dame and a Juris Doctor from Duke Law School. Throughout his career, he has served in key public roles, including Minister of Government and Justice and Ambassador of Panama to the United States. He is widely recognized for his leadership, global perspective, and contributions to both the legal profession and public life.

Jaime Alemán is a founding partner of Alcogal and a highly respected figure in both the legal and public sectors. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of Notre Dame and a Juris Doctor from Duke Law School.

Over the course of his career, he has held prominent public positions in Panama, including serving as legal advisor to President Nicolás Ardito Barletta, Minister of Government and Justice in 1988, and Ambassador of Panama to the United States from 2009 to 2011. He has also been a member of Panama’s National Council on Foreign Relations on two occasions. His experience in both government and private practice provides him with a unique perspective on regulatory, diplomatic, and corporate matters.

Mr. Alemán is an active member of the District of Columbia Bar and the National Bar Association of Panama. He has also served on the boards of leading financial institutions such as Banistmo and PKB Bank, and participates in several international organizations, including the Duke Law School Board of Visitors, Special Olympics International, and the Woodrow Wilson Center’s Latin America advisory board in Washington, D.C.

In addition to his legal and professional achievements, he is an accomplished author. In 2014, he published his autobiography Honesty Has No Price, followed in 2022 by Around the World in 48 Years, where he recounts his journey visiting all 193 United Nations member states, becoming the first Hispanic American to achieve this milestone. He has also traveled to both the North and South Poles and plans to travel to space in the near future.

He has been recognized by leading international legal publications. Who’s Who Legal named him one of Central America’s leading lawyers in corporate and private client law, while Chambers & Partners and IFLR 1000 have consistently ranked him among top-tier practitioners. In 2012, Duke Law School honored him with the International Alumni Distinguished Award, reflecting his global impact and commitment to excellence.
