Carlos Cordero

Carlos G. Cordero is a founding partner of Alcogal and a highly respected practitioner in corporate and financial law in Panama. Over the course of his career, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the country’s legal and business landscape, advising on some of the most significant corporate, financial, and infrastructure transactions.
He has also held important public positions, including serving as Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama between 1993 and 1994, and as a member of the National Council on Foreign Relations. In addition, he has acted as Ambassador Plenipotentiary on Special Mission for the Defense of International Services, reflecting his involvement in matters of national and international importance.
Mr. Cordero has served on the boards of major companies, including Cable & Wireless Panamá and Elektra Noreste, S.A., bringing valuable strategic and corporate governance insight to his legal practice.
Throughout his career, he has led numerous landmark transactions, including advising the Cisneros Group in its transaction with Coca-Cola, Cable & Wireless plc in the acquisition of a stake in Panama’s telecommunications operator, Kansas City Railway Company in the privatization of the Panama Canal Railway, Constellation Power in the acquisition of Elektra Noreste, S.A., Grupo Unidos por el Canal in the Panama Canal expansion bid, and London & Regional Group in the Panama Pacifico development project.
He is a member of the National Bar Association of Panama and has been consistently recognized by leading international legal publications such as Chambers & Partners, Legal 500, IFLR1000, and Who’s Who Legal. Chambers & Partners, for example, ranks him as a “Senior Statesperson” in Corporate/M&A, highlighting his longstanding leadership in the field.
In recognition of his distinguished career, he has been awarded the Ricardo J. Alfaro Medal (2013) and the Jorge Illueca S. Medal (2020) by the National Bar Association of Panama.
